Linearity has become the everything app for design - review
Designing on the iPad is a very refreshing experience. The touch interface makes it feel more personal, and the option to connect a keyboard and trackpad allows for a more profession workflow, so both ways are blended into this wonderful mush. My go-to app for design has always been Vectornator. It’s a simple UI, incredible powerful, and is built for both of the major ways to design on iPad. I didn’t think it could get better, until they released Linearity, they major change to Vectornator that I didn’t know I needed.
The changes
Linearity got some very nice changes that completely change how I use it. One of the major pains of the app was that I would have to send my collaborators the file, they change things, then send me the updated file. Well now Linearity gets real time collaboration, which allows for me to be on the same file with someone and see their edits in real time, simplifying the process of sharing.
They also added templates, which is a very welcome feature, In times where I just want to make something quick and not design every striking detail, I can now use the beautifully designed templates to jumpstart my designs.
Along with these major headlining features, Linearity also introduced their own cloud service for your designs, allowing people to have cloud sync without breaking the back for extra iCloud storage. There are also more AI tools, such as getting generative backgrounds for photos.
All new experiences
Along with announcing this major rebrand, Linearity also announced a new app called Linearity Move, that will let you “animate in one click.” While this is not available to the public yet, I have signed up for the wait list and will show off what they have told us about it so far.
To start, you upload your files from Linearity curve, (the main app that used to be Vectornator) Figma, Sketch, or Adobe Illustrator and put them in a timeline format. After that, Linearity Move will thread them together with an auto animate feature, creating dynamic movement instantly. However, if you are not pleased by what it did, you can always tweak it and change key frames, transitions, and position.
My take
Vectornator has always been a great app for making stunning graphics, and Linearity Curve and Move will take it to the next level. I feel like they are trying to become the one stop shop for all your marketing and design needs, and I’m all here for it. From collaboration to AI animation, this feels like it changed the game for graphic design.
